New figures from Nielsen and My Worldpanel highlight a steady picture for impulse snacking across crisps, snacks and nuts, in wholesale and convenience. The category is delivering value growth across recent weeks and over the year, supported by frequent shopper visits and strong performance in key formats. As shoppers become more considerate in what they buy, the right mix of range and pricing is proving increasingly important. In this article, we’ll delve into the key findings of the report and how retailers can continue to grow within this sector.

Sharing Formats Are In Demand
Standard Sharing and Sharing Price-Marked-Packs (PMP) continue to perform well and are the most consistent growth segments in the market. Brands such as Cheez Its are helping drive this momentum, showing that shoppers are responding positively to sharing formats that feel good value.
PMPs remain especially important here, offering clarity and reassurance at the fixture. As value continues to influence purchase decisions, clear pricing is helping shoppers feel confident in picking up a sharing pack.

Building Momentum
Total convenience is strengthening, with a growth of +1.8% in the last 12 weeks and +0.7% over MAT. Standard Sharing stands out as the most reliable segment, underlining its role as a core part of the impulse snacking offer in smaller stores.
Takis in PMP and Cheez Its in Standard Sharing bags are key contributors, while some established brands have softened slightly. This creates space for retailers to refresh their range and bring in brands that are resonating well with today’s shoppers.

Opportunities
Independent stores continue to grow lead by price and shopper frequency. While some segments have eased back, PMP stands out as an area of opportunity, continuing to perform positively.
This highlights the value of focusing on well priced, easy to shop ranges that work for everyday top up and treat missions. By prioritising clarity and relevance at the fixture, independents can continue to make the most of impulse opportunities.
